1. Introduction
Wellmens Limited (“Wellmens”, “we”, “our” or “us”) is committed to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains. This statement describes the steps we are taking to identify and manage the risk of modern slavery in connection with our construction, healthcare, MEP and consultancy services.
We recognise that the construction and building services sector can be exposed to labour risks, including through extended supply chains and subcontracting. We take these risks seriously and expect the same from the organisations we work with.
2. Our business and supply chains
Wellmens operates in the UK, delivering projects in live, critical environments including hospitals, commercial offices, labs and logistics estates. Our supply chain includes subcontractors, labour providers, consultants, designers, manufacturers and materials suppliers.
We aim to build long term relationships with suppliers and partners who share our standards on safety, quality and ethical conduct.
3. Policies and standards
Our approach to modern slavery is supported by a number of policies and expectations, including:
- Our supply chain expectations, which set out what we expect from subcontractors and suppliers
- Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) procedures
- Recruitment and HR policies for our direct employees
- Contracts and terms with suppliers and partners that include labour and compliance expectations
We expect suppliers to comply with applicable laws and to have their own policies and controls to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking.
4. Due diligence and risk assessment
We take a risk-based approach to assessing modern slavery risks in our business and supply chains. This may include:
- Prequalification and onboarding checks for new suppliers where appropriate
- Reviewing information on labour practices, health and safety and compliance
- Considering the nature of the work, location, and the use of subcontracting or agency labour
- Monitoring performance and addressing concerns raised during projects
We recognise that some parts of the supply chain may present higher risk than others, for example where there is a reliance on lower-paid or temporary labour. We are working to improve visibility and assurance in these areas over time.
5. Expectations of suppliers and partners
We expect all suppliers, subcontractors and partners who work with Wellmens to:
- Comply with applicable laws on modern slavery and human trafficking
- Provide workers with clear terms of employment and fair working conditions
- Ensure workers are free to leave employment and are not subject to coercion or debt bondage
- Use legitimate and transparent labour supply routes
- Be able to provide information on labour practices and supply chains when reasonably requested
Where we work through frameworks or joint arrangements we support the modern slavery requirements and due diligence processes established by those bodies.
6. Training and awareness
We aim to raise awareness of modern slavery risks among our people, particularly those involved in procurement, project management and site supervision. This may include:
- Sharing guidance and updates on modern slavery and labour risk
- Including modern slavery topics in inductions or toolbox talks where relevant
- Making managers aware of signs that may indicate exploitation or poor labour practices
7. Reporting concerns
We encourage anyone working with or for Wellmens to raise concerns about potential modern slavery or labour exploitation. Concerns can be raised with a manager, project lead or via the contact details on this website.
We will treat concerns seriously and, where appropriate, investigate and take action. This may include working with the relevant supplier, taking steps to protect individuals and, if necessary, reporting matters to the appropriate authorities.
8. Continuous improvement
We recognise that addressing modern slavery risk is an ongoing process. We will continue to review our policies, processes and relationships with suppliers to identify opportunities for improvement and to respond to changes in guidance and best practice.
9. Approval
This statement has been approved on behalf of Wellmens Limited and will be reviewed periodically.
